Bangladesh kept their T20I series alive with a 34-run victory over Zimbabwe at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, bouncing back after earlier defeats in both the Test and ODI legs of the tour. Player of the Match Mohammad Saifuddin credited team adaptation and meticulous tactical planning for the crucial win.
Saifuddin explained that adjusting to the local conditions had been challenging after the team arrived just five to seven days before the series began. 'We've been playing really well at home over the last couple of months, but we've struggled at times away from home because of the different conditions,' Saifuddin said. To counter this, the squad held extensive discussions during team dinners and meetings to formulate plans for handling the weather and the wicket.
A key part of their bowling strategy involved analyzing the ground's uneven boundaries. Saifuddin noted that one side of the field measured 70 meters while the other was around 64 meters. The bowling unit spent significant time planning how to utilize the larger boundary and defend the shorter one. 'We had a lot of discussion about which way we can bowl on the bigger side and how we can bowl on the smaller side and we had a lot of discussion about how we can handle this and I think we have done well,' Saifuddin added, as the team now shifts its focus to clinching the series.
Amid the victory, Bangladesh faces an injury concern with fast bowler Nahid Rana, who sustained a left side strain during the match. The 23-year-old, who registered career-best T20I figures in the series opener, was forced off the field after bowling 2.3 overs, finishing with figures of 1-15.
Bangladesh team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan confirmed the injury, stating that Rana was stopped from bowling as a precaution. 'Nahid Rana complained about left side strain and that is why we did not allow him to bowl. We will observe him tomorrow,' Khan said, adding that a decision on whether to conduct a scan and his subsequent recovery timeline would be made soon. The team management remains hopeful but cautious regarding Rana's availability for the upcoming series decider.
