The United States has launched a fresh round of strikes against Iranian military targets as the regional conflict continues to intensify. According to a statement from CENTCOM, US forces began the mission at 5:30 pm ET under the direction of the Commander in Chief. The operation is designed to further degrade Iran's ability to threaten civilian mariners and commercial vessels transiting through regional waters.
Simultaneously, military authorities in Kuwait reported that their air defenses were activated to intercept a drone attack originating from Iran. The General Staff of the Army stated that any sounds of explosions heard in the area were the result of these drones being intercepted. The military has requested that all individuals adhere to security and safety instructions issued by the competent authorities.
Regional tensions have been on the rise since the United States and Israel initiated a joint offensive against Iran on February 28. Although the two sides signed a Pakistani-mediated memorandum of understanding last month intended to end their conflict and establish a lasting peace agreement, hostilities escalated again last week regarding the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in an exchange of attacks. According to figures from the Department of Defense, 18 US service members have been killed and 447 others have been injured since the joint offensive began in late February.
