The letter explicitly states that the pair are no longer working members of the royal family and will not use the titles "His or Her Royal Highness."
The document notes that the couple, known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, stepped down from their roles as senior working members of the royal family in January 2020. The letter confirms that this position "will continue to be fully respected." Regarding their future activities, the correspondence specifies that any charitable work will be conducted in a private capacity. Furthermore, the letter addresses security concerns, stating that such matters are the responsibility of the relevant police agencies. "In short, their position is akin to private citizens with commercial and charitable interests," the letter stated.
Palace sources indicated that the decision to make the letter public was made in a spirit of transparency to avoid the potential for leaks. News of the couple's return to Britain emerged in late August, marking their first move back after six years of living in California. Reports indicate the couple is expected to reside in the Cotswolds region, which is about a two-hour drive west of London.
