Bologna have successfully secured a full agreement with both Argentine club Estudiantes and 21-year-old midfielder Mikel Amondarain. The deal, which comes after weeks of negotiations, is valued at approximately €10m, following the rejection of an earlier €8m bid.
The move comes despite a late attempt by Nottingham Forest to intervene in the transfer process. The Premier League side's approach prompted Bologna to accelerate their efforts to finalize the acquisition. Prior to settling on Amondarain, the club had considered several alternative targets, including Racing Santander’s Gustavo Puerta.
Bologna director Claudio Fenucci confirmed the club's pursuit, noting that the midfielder was their primary objective. A verbal agreement is now in place for both the transfer fee and the player's personal terms. Amondarain is expected to travel for medical examinations and sign his contract this weekend.
A product of the Estudiantes youth academy, Amondarain broke into the club's senior squad last year. He remains under contract with the Argentine side until the end of December 2028.
