Israeli forces have conducted a series of military operations in southern Lebanon, resulting in the destruction of a school and injuries at a religious commemoration site. According to reports from the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) on Wednesday, Israeli forces detonated and destroyed the four-story Sheikh Naim Mahdi School building located in the centre of Eastern Zawtar.
The military activity also included explosions carried out in the Touline Valley along the Wadi al Saluki road. During the overnight hours, the agency reported two large explosions in Haddatha and a massive blast in Beit Yahoun, situated in the Bint Jbeil district. In a separate incident, an Israeli drone directly struck an Ashura commemoration site on the Kafra-Al-Asi road, which resulted in several injuries. Additionally, the NNA noted that an Israeli drone was observed flying over the southern suburbs of Beirut.
These developments occur against the backdrop of persistent Israeli offensives in Lebanon. According to Lebanese authorities, the conflict has resulted in 4,335 deaths, 12,277 injuries, and the displacement of more than 1 million people since March 2. Despite these ongoing hostilities, diplomatic efforts continue. On June 26, Beirut and Tel Aviv signed a framework agreement under United States sponsorship. This agreement calls for the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from all occupied Lebanese territory in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army and the disarmament of armed groups, including Hezbollah.
Israel currently maintains an occupation in various areas of southern Lebanon, with some regions held for decades and others seized during the 2023-2024 war. During the current conflict, Israeli forces have advanced more than 10 kilometres into Lebanese territory.
