Jim Thornton, the longtime announcer for the syndicated game show "Wheel of Fortune," has been suspended from the production following unspecified allegations. A spokesperson for Sony Pictures Television confirmed the development in a statement issued on September 1, noting that the company is currently recasting the role while it carries out a thorough investigation into the matter.

Thornton has served as the announcer for the main "Wheel of Fortune" program since 2011, following a tryout period that began in 2010 after the death of his predecessor, Charlie O'Donnell, who had held the position for more than 25 years. In 2021, Thornton expanded his responsibilities to include the spinoff series "Celebrity Wheel of Fortune." Both programs are currently hosted by Ryan Seacrest and Vanna White.

Before securing his permanent role on the game show, Thornton had auditioned for the position of announcer on "The Price is Right" as a replacement for Rod Roddy. His broadcasting career dates back to 1983, and his professional background includes extensive work in radio, notably as an anchor for KNX News 1070 AM.
