Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced his readiness to organize elections in Ukraine, provided that Russian President Vladimir Putin agrees to a 60-day total ceasefire. Addressing the proposal, Zelenskyy told ABC, "Please tell Putin, give us two months, 60 days of total ceasefire, 60 days, and we will organise elections."

This statement follows recent criticism from US President Donald Trump, who suggested on Saturday that it is time for Ukraine to have a new president. Trump’s remarks came after he criticized Zelenskyy for authorizing strikes on Russian oil refineries, an action taken just one day after the United States temporarily lifted sanctions on Russian fuel intended to limit Moscow's war funding.

In response to the suggestion that he should be replaced, Zelenskyy emphasized that the choice of leadership is "up to Ukrainians." He further noted that Vladimir Putin would also prefer a change in Ukrainian leadership. Addressing the impact of the war on global fuel prices, Zelenskyy argued that it is easy to blame Ukraine, even though there is a broader understanding that prices are rising due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Earlier on Sunday, Zelenskyy also indicated that Ukraine would be prepared to halt its attacks on Russian oil refineries if Moscow agrees to cease its own strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
