Inter Miami CF announced on Wednesday the signing of Brazilian national team midfielder Casemiro, who arrives at the club following his departure from English Premier League side Manchester United. The 34-year-old joins the 2025 MLS Cup champions as a free agent, having signed a contract that runs through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season, with an additional option extending until June 2029.
As part of the move, Inter Miami also secured Casemiro’s Discover Priority rights from the LA Galaxy. The midfielder, who previously represented Brazil at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, brings an extensive professional history to the team, having spent 14 years playing in Europe for Real Madrid, FC Porto, and Manchester United. His career began in Brazil at São Paulo FC.
Reflecting on his new chapter, Casemiro stated that his primary motivation is winning and continued growth. He expressed gratitude for the club's project and the effort made to bring him to Miami, noting his commitment to repaying that trust both on matchdays and during daily training sessions.
Managing owner Jorge Mas praised the acquisition, highlighting Casemiro’s leadership and winning mentality as core values that align with the club's ambition to become a global benchmark. Co-owner David Beckham also welcomed the move, noting his long-standing admiration for Casemiro as a player and person.
Casemiro joins a roster that features 2022 World Cup champion Rodrigo De Paul in the midfield, alongside Designated Players Lionel Messi and Germán Berterame. The move reunites Casemiro with former teammates, including Spanish left back Sergio Reguilón, who joined Inter Miami last winter. Historically, Casemiro also frequently faced current Inter Miami figures such as Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez during his time in El Clásico matches against FC Barcelona.
Throughout his career, Casemiro has secured 21 trophies, including three LaLiga titles and five UEFA Champions League crowns during his time at Real Madrid. He has recorded 73 goals and 61 assists in 663 club appearances, while earning 91 caps for Brazil with 10 goals and 6 assists. Currently, Inter Miami sits second in the Eastern Conference with 31 points following the World Cup break, with Guillermo Hoyos serving as head coach. Predicting which clubs the summer's biggest free agents will sign for remains a key focus for analysts, while Tottenham fans await further news on why James Maddison was not awarded a penalty against Leeds as the Premier League issued a statement. Spurs midfielder Maddison was denied a big moment on his return from injury, with the Premier League explaining the decision in their draw against Leeds.
The Herons opened Nu Stadium in early April, giving the club a permanent home in Miami proper.
