US Vice President JD Vance addressed concerns regarding potential long-term military involvement in Iran on Thursday, explicitly ruling out the prospect of an endless conflict. Speaking to Fox News, Vance expressed full confidence that President Donald Trump would successfully achieve the administration's stated objectives in the region.
"There's a lot more we need to work on, but the one thing I'll tell you is, if you're worried about another forever war, Donald Trump is never going to let this be a forever war," Vance stated. He clarified that there is a distinct difference between criticizing foreign military misadventures and asserting that the American military can never be deployed. According to Vance, the administration's approach involves accomplishing set objectives and then shifting focus to other priorities.
The comments come against a backdrop of heightened tensions between the United States and Iran. The conflict intensified on February 28, when the United States and Israel conducted strikes against Iran. Tehran responded by targeting both Israel and US positions located across various Arab nations.
Diplomatic efforts saw a brief period of progress when the US and Iran signed a framework agreement in June. However, subsequent negotiations collapsed following disputes regarding the security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical transit route for global energy supplies and commercial goods.
