U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that American military forces have largely decimated Iran's armed forces and nuclear program, though Washington still needs to address one or two remaining sites, including a suspected underground nuclear facility at Pickaxe Mountain.
Speaking to reporters at his residence in Florida, Trump indicated there is no immediate rush to resume military strikes. "We've knocked out their nuclear. We still have to take care of, I would say, one or two sites, but we can do that in 10 minutes," Trump declared. He specifically pointed to Pickaxe Mountain, adding, "You probably could look at Pickaxe Mountain, and you have to take care of that. We can do that all very quickly." The Iranian government has consistently denied conducting any nuclear operations at the facility.
Regarding diplomatic channels aimed at formally concluding the conflict—which was launched in late February by the United States and Israel—Trump remarked that discussions were "going fine, but you know they're not very reliable." His comments follow earlier statements warning of potential military action after the U.S. midterm elections, having previously mused whether to "finish them off."
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio clarified on Saturday that President Trump has not finalized any decision regarding fresh strikes on Iran, emphasizing that Washington remains open to a diplomatic resolution. At the same time, Iran's supreme leader cautioned both Washington and Tel Aviv against initiating further bombardments following rhetoric threatening a resumption of hostilities after the elections.
