The United States has officially confirmed its role in mediating upcoming working-level negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. The talks are scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi on November 10–11, as the Trump administration seeks to accelerate diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the ongoing conflict. US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff announced the initiative on the X platform, characterizing the meeting as a significant step in President Donald Trump’s mission to halt hostilities.
According to Witkoff, the agenda for the Abu Dhabi discussions will prioritize post-war security arrangements, de-escalation strategies, humanitarian initiatives, and the identification of next steps toward a comprehensive, durable peace agreement. The envoy expressed an intention to build upon previous progress made during diplomatic engagements in Kiev, Oslo, and St. Petersburg, with the goal of securing lasting stability for future generations.
Prior to the Abu Dhabi summit, American negotiators are set to convene in Brussels this week. These consultations will include representatives from France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and NATO. The Brussels meetings are expected to focus on defining security guarantees for Ukraine, establishing a future security architecture for Europe, and exploring economic opportunities to support the country’s post-war reconstruction.
These diplomatic developments coincide with a period of intensified military strikes between the two nations. Both Russia and Ukraine have recently targeted critical infrastructure and energy facilities. Ukraine has conducted multiple strikes on Russian oil refineries, which it describes as retaliation for Russian attacks on its own energy grid. Meanwhile, Moscow has reported Ukrainian drone attacks on industrial facilities, and Kiev continues to report fresh power outages resulting from ongoing Russian military strikes.
