A fire erupted at a Wildberries logistics centre in Yekaterinburg, Russia, on Friday after debris from a Ukrainian drone attack struck the facility. Sverdlovsk Regional Governor Denis Pasler confirmed that Russian air defences intercepted eight drones over the region, with three of them crashing onto the warehouse roof. Authorities reported that all personnel were evacuated successfully, and no injuries were sustained during the incident.
Wildberries, which operates as Russia's largest online retailer, announced that it has suspended operations at the site while firefighters work to extinguish the blaze. The company noted that it is currently rerouting deliveries to other logistics centres to minimize disruption.
This incident occurred amidst a significant escalation in aerial hostilities between the two nations. The Russian defence ministry claimed its forces shot down 203 Ukrainian drones across Russia, the Black Sea, and the annexed region of Crimea overnight. Additionally, Moscow asserted that its forces targeted Ukrainian naval vessels and three cargo ships, alleging the vessels were transporting military supplies through the Black Sea.
In response, Ukraine's Air Force reported that Russia launched 147 drones overnight, claiming that 114 were successfully intercepted or suppressed across eastern, southern, and northern regions. Neither side’s battlefield claims have been independently verified.
Kiev has frequently targeted Wildberries logistics facilities since mid-July, alleging that the retailer plays a role in supporting the Russian military supply chain. Both Moscow and Wildberries have consistently denied these accusations, maintaining that the warehouses are strictly civilian facilities.
