The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln sailed past Singapore early Sunday morning as it began its journey back to the United States following a demanding deployment in the Middle East. The massive warship, which is one of the largest in the American fleet, is scheduled to make a port call in Thailand before continuing home.
Journalists on the Indonesian island of Batam, situated across the Singapore Strait, observed the carrier transiting the waters near Singapore shortly after 1 a.m. local time on Sunday. Thai officials have confirmed that the vessel will stop in Thailand to allow the crew time for rest and recovery before they head back to their home base in the United States.
During its deployment in the Middle East, where it supported U.S. military operations against Iran, the USS Abraham Lincoln set a record by spending more than 250 consecutive days at sea without a break. This prolonged period at sea has raised significant concerns, fueled by reports of supply shortages—including food and hygiene products—as well as declining mental health among the sailors on board.
