Kuwaiti air defences have engaged hostile missile and drone attacks originating from Iran, the military announced, as regional clashes escalate across the Gulf. The General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces stated in a post on X that their air defence batteries are actively intercepting incoming hostile targets following what they described as heinous Iranian aggression.
The military leadership confirmed that loud explosions heard across parts of the country are the result of these active interception operations. Authorities have urged citizens and residents to strictly observe security and safety directives issued by the competent authorities.
The aerial assault unfolds amid heightened military hostilities across the Gulf region, where the United States and Iran have been trading strikes since February. Kuwait has repeatedly found itself within range of Iranian attacks. The Iranian IRIB news agency claimed that US military bases in Kuwait were struck during the operation, reporting that one of the American bases was hit and sending plumes of smoke rising.
It remains unclear whether Kuwaiti armed forces or domestic infrastructure sustained damage or casualties during the aerial barrage.
