The Yemeni military has launched targeted operations against Houthi supply lines and troop positions in the southwestern cities of Taiz and Mokha, according to an official military statement.
The army's media center announced on Thursday that air forces conducted strikes on Houthi positions and supply routes in Taiz province, situated near the strategic Bab al Mandab Strait. This development follows an earlier military announcement stating that government forces had successfully repelled a Houthi assault and hit the group's positions and reinforcements within Taiz. There was no immediate response or comment from the Houthi group regarding these military claims.
According to government military sources, the army has recently stepped up its operations and strikes against Houthi positions and gatherings across multiple provinces, with a particular focus on Taiz. Over the past week, combat has grown more intense along the western coast of Yemen. During this period, Houthi fighters captured strategic districts in the provinces of Hodeidah and Taiz, including the port city of Mokha, as well as several Red Sea islands, such as Mayyun Island in the Bab al Mandab Strait.
In response, government forces have made advances in Al-Jawf province, pushing toward its capital, Al-Hazm. Meanwhile, active clashes are ongoing in the provinces of Marib, Al-Dhale, and Al-Bayda. This surge in fighting, which originally flared up in July and intensified this month, represents the most extensive escalation since the relative calm established under the April 2022 truce. The conflict in Yemen has persisted since 2014, when Houthi forces captured the capital, Sanaa, and multiple other provinces, leading to the intervention of a Saudi-led coalition in 2015 to back the internationally recognized government.
