A small child managed to breach the perimeter of the White House on Tuesday, leading to an immediate intervention by the United States Secret Service. According to Anthony Guglielmi, the agency's chief of communications, the toddler successfully crawled through the fence located on the north side of the executive mansion.
The incident triggered instantaneous security alerts within the complex. Guglielmi confirmed that the Secret Service Uniformed Division encountered the young visitor shortly after they entered the grounds. The situation was resolved quickly, and the toddler was reunited with their parents.
This event marks a rare recurrence of a similar security breach. In 2014, a toddler squeezed through the White House fence just before then-President Barack Obama was scheduled to deliver a televised address regarding Iraq. That specific incident resulted in a temporary lockdown of the grounds and caused a delay to the planned briefing.
Reflecting on the 2014 event, then-Secret Service spokesman Edwin Donovan remarked at the time, "We were going to wait until he learned to talk to question him, but in lieu of that, he got a timeout and was sent on way with parents."
