The United States State Department is set to issue visas to Flavio Bolsonaro and his family, permitting their entry into the country, according to a senior official who spoke on Tuesday. This decision follows reports from various media outlets, including The New York Times and CNN, which cited unnamed US officials stating that Bolsonaro had already departed Brazil for the United States.

Bolsonaro, 45, is currently navigating significant legal challenges. Although his passports were reportedly cancelled, he had not surrendered the documents as of Tuesday afternoon. He faces ongoing investigations into allegations of currency evasion and money laundering, as well as inquiries regarding the financing of a biographical film about his father, former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. Flavio Bolsonaro has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

The development follows his defeat in Sunday’s presidential election against the incumbent, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. As a result of the election outcome, Bolsonaro is expected to lose his parliamentary immunity, a factor that has intensified his legal difficulties. While he has publicly contested the election results and vowed to pursue legal challenges, his political party and allies have formally accepted the outcome, leaving him increasingly isolated.

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva addressed the departure, describing it as a "shameful" exit. Lula remarked that he had recently learned of the departure, suggesting that his rival should have remained in Brazil to prove his innocence rather than leaving the country.
