Auqib Nabi, a 29-year-old seamer representing Jammu and Kashmir, has received his maiden call-up to the Indian Test squad. He will join the touring party for the upcoming two-Test series in Sri Lanka as a replacement for the injured Jasprit Bumrah.
Bumrah was officially ruled out of the tour on Monday after failing to travel with the squad over the weekend. His absence follows a recurring left knee niggle, an issue that has persisted since the T20 World Cup and was aggravated during the second ODI against England in Cardiff last month.
Nabi enters the national setup on the back of impressive domestic performances. He secured 104 wickets over the last two Ranji Trophy seasons, including a 60-wicket haul during the 2025-26 campaign that proved pivotal in Jammu and Kashmir's inaugural Ranji Trophy title victory. Furthermore, Nabi gained recent international experience as part of the India A squad that toured Sri Lanka, where he claimed six wickets across two first-class matches. Should he feature in the upcoming series, he will become the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to play Test cricket.
The Indian seam bowling unit for the tour now consists of Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, and Nabi. The two-Test series is scheduled to begin in Galle on August 15, preceded by a three-day warm-up match in Colombo starting August 7.
