A total of 11 civilians were wounded following attacks by Yemen's Houthi group on the southern Saudi Arabian region of Najran, according to the Saudi-led coalition supporting the internationally recognized Yemeni government. Coalition spokesperson Turki al-Maliki confirmed that the incident occurred on Thursday.
Among those injured were seven Saudi nationals, including a woman and a 4-year-old child who sustained second-degree burns. The remaining four victims included two Egyptian nationals, one Yemeni citizen, and one Pakistani national.
Al-Maliki characterized the assault as an indiscriminate use of projectiles against civilian areas. He accused the Houthi group of deliberately targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, stating that such actions are in direct violation of international humanitarian law. In response, the coalition vowed to continue implementing "deterrent measures" to ensure the protection of civilians from future aggression.
This surge in violence follows a period of heightened tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-aligned Houthi movement. In recent weeks, the Houthis have claimed responsibility for a series of attacks on Saudi military targets and shipping, while also imposing what the group describes as a naval blockade on the kingdom in the Red Sea. Saudi Arabia has responded to these provocations with targeted strikes on Houthi military sites within Yemen.
