The situation began on Wednesday when Schefter, appearing on 97.5 The Fanatic, claimed his sources indicated that James was preparing for a return to the Miami Heat. Schefter even read a text message on air that stated, "I’m hearing Bron is coming to the Miami Heat, just want to give you a heads up. You may want to check it out."
That report was debunked on Friday when it was confirmed that James had instead joined Joel Embiid and Jaylen Brown at the Philadelphia 76ers on a two-year deal worth $8 million. During a subsequent appearance on the "Game Over" podcast, Paul did not hold back in his assessment of the misinformation. "All the speculation was so far left. I felt bad for my guy Adam Schefter; somebody sold him a lemon," Paul remarked.
The move to Philadelphia has been met with enthusiasm from the city's sports community. Among those welcoming "The King" was Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, who wrote on social media, "Welcome to the city! Let me know when you tryna tee it up." Barkley had previously campaigned for James to join the 76ers while speaking at a youth football camp in Haddonfield, New Jersey, earlier this month. At the time, Barkley argued that Philadelphia is one of the greatest sports towns in the world and that winning a championship there would secure a player's legacy forever, despite disagreeing with comments made by New York Knicks forward Josh Hart.
