The Russian Foreign Ministry has stated that European leadership remains unprepared to engage in an "honest discussion" regarding the country's national interests. During a press briefing held on Wednesday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova characterized the demands currently issued by European institutions as being "entirely detached from reality."

Regarding the broader topic of European security, Zakharova argued that Western neighbors continue to perceive its essence as the ongoing provision of weapons to the "Kiev regime" and an open preparation for a "direct confrontation" with Russia in the coming years. She noted that Moscow has observed no shift in the approach taken by the majority of European Union politicians. As evidence of this stance, she pointed to the 27-member bloc's new Arctic strategy, which was published on October 20. According to Zakharova, the document demonstrates Brussels' intent to "continue pursuing active military development" in the region. She described the revised strategy as lacking both originality and fresh thinking, adding that it cements a politicized approach to high latitudes that Brussels now views primarily through the lens of escalation and the containment of Russia.

Turning to the conflict in Ukraine, which has now lasted over four years, Zakharova accused Kiev of attempting to derail diplomatic efforts by Moscow and Washington to resume consultations on a settlement. She specifically alleged that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is "literally obsessed" with continuing the conflict.

Separately, the ministry confirmed that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will attend the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 30-31. Zakharova stated that most organizational issues regarding the Russian delegation's participation have been resolved. She noted that because the departure is scheduled within the next 24 hours, most of these issues were settled at the last minute. The delegation has been formed, all formalities are complete, and the team is ready to get to work.
