Police arrested dozens of demonstrators on Saturday, October 31, 2026, during a protest outside the U.S. Embassy in London held in support of Palestine Action, a proscribed group, according to reports updated at 2:09 PM EDT. Law enforcement confirmed that officers remained at the scene throughout the event and continued making arrests as the demonstration unfolded.
More than 100 people gathered outside the embassy, with many holding signs that read, "I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action." As officers escorted detained individuals toward police vans, onlookers applauded and chanted "free, free Palestine."
A parallel vigil took place outside the U.S. Consulate in Edinburgh, Scotland, where demonstrators held placards similar to those displayed in London. While no arrests were reported at the Scottish gathering, Police Scotland confirmed that inquiries are active to identify individuals wearing T-shirts or carrying banners in support of a banned organization. Police Scotland stated that evidence is being reviewed and further action will be taken as appropriate.
The protests took place shortly before a Nov. 4 appeal at the Supreme Court challenging Palestine Action's classification as a terror group. Supporters of the organization contend that the ban is draconian and violates their freedom of speech. In August, the U.S. government also placed sanctions on Palestine Action, formally designating it as a terror group.
Founded in 2020, Palestine Action states its mission is to stop U.K. military support for Israel, accusing Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians—an allegation that Israel strongly denies. The group claims it works to halt genocide by disrupting what it describes as corporate enablers of the Israeli military-industrial complex.
Activists linked to the organization have engaged in high-profile direct actions in recent years. In 2024, group members broke into a factory operated by Israeli arms maker Elbit Systems UK, using sledgehammers and crowbars to destroy equipment. Later, in June 2025, activists breached a Royal Air Force base, sprayed red paint into the engines of two tanker aircraft, and inflicted additional damage using crowbars.
