Consumers are being urged to check their pantries following a product recall issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Oct. 29. SLR Food Distribution Inc. has initiated a voluntary recall of its Wise Wife Brand Ground Cinnamon after testing revealed the product may be contaminated with elevated levels of lead.
The affected cinnamon was distributed to various retail and grocery stores across 14 states between Sept. 8, 2025, and June 28, 2026. The issue was initially identified by the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station during an evaluation of the product.
The recalled spice is packaged in a clear plastic seasoning container with a black cap. Customers can identify the product by the UPC 0688474302754 located on the back of the label and a best-by date of April 25, 2027. While the FDA has confirmed that no illnesses have been linked to this recall to date, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns that short-term exposure to high levels of lead can cause symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, and memory loss.
Reexamine your holiday ingredients, particularly for dishes with cinnamon.
