The Hollywood Walk of Fame star dedicated to country music legend Dolly Parton is currently being replaced following reports that it was vandalized. Ana Martinez, the senior vice president of media and talent relations for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, confirmed to ABC 7 on Sept. 1 that the star was already slated for replacement due to existing cracks before the vandalism occurred. The damage took place after staff had cleared away tributes left by fans in preparation for the scheduled maintenance.
Following Parton's death at age 80 on Aug. 25, many fans had visited the star, which was originally dedicated in 1984, to leave flowers and other memorabilia. On Aug. 31, a fan reported to TMZ that an individual had scratched the star and stolen the flowers left by admirers. Blogger Lore Corona, who visited the site with her daughter, documented their efforts to clean the defaced memorial. In a post on Threads dated Aug. 31, Corona recounted that a custodian at the scene told them a woman had kicked candles around the area and used shards from one to scratch the star, while a man subsequently arrived to steal the flowers.
Video footage broadcast by KNX News 1070 AM showed the red star had been removed entirely, leaving a hollow square in the sidewalk. By later that day, the Hollywood Historic Trust, which oversees the maintenance of the Walk of Fame, shared an update on the restoration progress. A photo showed a blank red star placed within the previously empty square. The organization stated that they are proud to honor Parton's legacy with the replacement, noting that the new star will be available for public viewing this Friday.
