AFC Bournemouth have bolstered their defensive options with the signing of Portugal international António Silva from Benfica. The 22-year-old becomes the club's second new addition this week, following the earlier arrival of forward Alvaro Rodriguez from Elche.
Silva arrives at the Vitality Stadium to fill the defensive void created by the departure of Marcos Senesi, who recently completed a free transfer to Tottenham. During his tenure in Lisbon, Silva established himself as a key figure, making 235 senior appearances for Benfica and securing six major honours.
The defender has earned 20 caps for the Portugal national team, representing his country at the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024. He was not included in Portugal's squad for the most recent World Cup held in North America.
Reflecting on his move to the Premier League, Silva expressed his enthusiasm for the new challenge. He stated that he is very happy to be at the club and finds it a pleasure to play for Bournemouth. Looking ahead to the upcoming campaign, Silva noted that he cannot wait to start the season with his teammates, adding that the team's mentality is always to win. He committed to playing his best for the fans, noting that the club provides everything necessary to perform effectively on the pitch.
