Iraqi security forces have located and confiscated a drone-launching platform inside their territory that was used to carry out a recent strike against a major oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia. Saad Maan, the head of Iraq's Security Media Cell, confirmed the seizure, noting that a specialized intelligence and security task force successfully tracked down the platform.
The development comes after Saudi Arabia reported on Friday that several drones launched from Iraq had struck portions of its strategic East-West pipeline in the Riyadh and Medina regions. The cross-border attack caused injuries and damage to infrastructure. In response, the Saudi Foreign Ministry stated that Riyadh has decided against launching immediate military retaliation, choosing instead to grant Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi's direct request for time to secure the border and prevent Iraqi territory from being used for attacks against its neighbors.
Iraqi authorities are now carrying out a comprehensive forensic and technical investigation to trace those behind the launch. Military spokesman Sabah al-Numan stated that security and intelligence agencies are actively pursuing all individuals involved in organizing the cross-border strikes.
Additionally, Prime Minister al-Zaidi has approved a request from Iran to conduct a joint investigation. This decision was made after security forces discovered more drone-launching platforms near the shared border between Iraq and Iran. Meanwhile, Baghdad and Riyadh are maintaining active diplomatic and security communication lines to share intelligence and coordinate their responses to the incident.
