A two-day ministerial conference focused on the advancement of women has officially commenced in Islamabad, Pakistan. Organized by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in partnership with Pakistan’s Ministry of Human Rights, the event brings together delegates from 57 member states to address critical issues regarding socioeconomic and political empowerment, gender equality, and institutional reforms.
The ninth edition of this ministerial conference is being chaired by Azam Nazeer Tarar, Pakistan’s minister for law, justice, and human rights. Approximately 200 delegates are in attendance, including female ministers, senior government officials, representatives from various OIC institutions, international organizations, and key development partners.
Operating under the theme “Socio-Economic and Political Empowerment of Women in the OIC Countries: Challenges and Way Forward,” the forum aims to establish a roadmap through the adoption of the Islamabad Declaration. Discussions are centered on developing strategies to support Muslim women, with specific panels dedicated to education, the expansion of learning opportunities, capacity building, economic development, and environmental concerns.
During a press conference held prior to the event, Minister Tarar stated that Pakistan intends to utilize this high-level platform to showcase national initiatives designed to foster an inclusive society and empower women. The gathering serves as a primary venue for member states to collaborate on shared strategies for the future of women and family affairs across the Islamic world.
