Mauricio Pochettino has agreed to continue as the head coach of the United States men's national team, extending his tenure through the 2030 World Cup. The 54-year-old manager, who took charge of the team in 2024, will be joined by his coaching staff, all of whom have also signed new contracts with US Soccer.
Reflecting on the decision, the Argentinian coach noted the potential for growth within the national program. Pochettino stated that the passion observed from fans during the recent co-hosted World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico reinforced his belief in the team's future. He expressed a desire to create a lasting impact on the sport that extends beyond on-field results in a country that has been welcoming to his staff.
Pochettino, who previously managed Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain, arrived two years ago following the departure of Gregg Berhalter after a group-stage exit at the 2024 Copa America. Under Pochettino's guidance, the team reached the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup final, where they were defeated 2-1 by Mexico. In the recent World Cup, the squad secured three victories for the first time in tournament history before exiting in the round of 16 against Belgium. That match followed a significant controversy regarding FIFA’s decision to suspend a red-card ban for striker Folarin Balogun, after which Belgium recorded a 4-1 win.
US Soccer president Cindy Parlow Cone praised the culture established by the manager, highlighting how players have developed trust in the group and the process. She noted that the team’s growth and performance on the world's biggest stage were clear indicators of the positive impact of Pochettino's leadership. Despite rumors linking him to a return to European club management, Pochettino will now focus on the next World Cup cycle, which is set to take place across Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
