Pakistani security forces engaged in clashes with militants in the insurgency-stricken province of Balochistan, resulting in the deaths of 10 insurgents. The military reported that two soldiers were wounded during the operation. This military action was directed against groups identified by authorities as “Fitna Al Hindustan,” a label used by Islamabad to describe Baloch separatist factions it claims are supported by India. New Delhi has consistently denied these allegations of backing militants within Pakistan.
In a separate incident on Wednesday, a car bomb detonated prematurely in the Surab district of the province. The explosion occurred at a home where eight militants were in the process of rigging the explosives, killing all of them instantly. The blast also resulted in the deaths of three civilians who were nearby, bringing the total number of civilian casualties in the province that day to 3.
Balochistan, Pakistan's largest and least populous province, has long been the site of a separatist insurgency led by the banned Baloch Liberation Army. The group has been responsible for numerous attacks targeting security personnel, Chinese-backed interests, and regional infrastructure projects. The province also faces threats from the Pakistani Taliban, a distinct organization that maintains ties with the Afghan Taliban.
