Polish authorities have arrested a man suspected of plotting an assassination attempt targeting Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, official sources confirmed.
The suspect, identified as a Polish national, was taken into custody in the Lower Silesia region. Jacek Dobrzynski, speaking on behalf of the Special Services Coordinator to local media, emphasized the gravity of the plot, stating that "in this case we are talking about a strong likelihood that these threats could actually be carried out."
Interior Ministry spokeswoman Karolina Galecka explained that the conspiracy was exposed when the State Protection Service, which provides security for government ministers, received an email detailing the potential attack and forwarded the information to police.
The interior ministry had previously reported that law enforcement received credible intelligence regarding potential attacks against both Tusk and Kosiniak-Kamysz. In response, security services convened an emergency meeting on Sunday to evaluate the situation, with a spokesman confirming that officials were treating the threat as "deadly serious."
Prime Minister Tusk publicly expressed his gratitude to law enforcement agencies for taking "swift and decisive action" in detaining the suspect. Tusk has served as Poland's prime minister since 2023, having earlier led the government from 2007 to 2014 before serving as president of the European Council from 2014 to 2019.
