A major police operation is currently underway in Aarau, Switzerland, following a shooting incident that occurred overnight. Local authorities confirmed that the attack resulted in one death and left five other individuals injured.
The Aargau Cantonal Police stated that the shooting took place in the Schachen area of Aarau, located approximately 46km (29 miles) west of Zurich, near a local horse racing track. A rave was scheduled to take place in the area into the early hours of Sunday.
Regarding the status of the perpetrator, the police confirmed that a manhunt for the unknown suspect is currently in progress. Officials noted that the exact circumstances of the crime and the potential motives remain unclear at this stage. To support the investigation, the force has requested that any witnesses submit photographs or video footage captured at the scene.
Authorities have cordoned off a significant area surrounding the racing track, including the town's swimming pool and nearby sports fields, and have urged the public to stay away. As a precautionary measure, a large contingent of officers has been deployed beyond the immediate vicinity of Aarau.
Broadcaster SRF reported that the regional disaster response unit (KKE) was deployed to the scene alongside police and fire officials. Early Sunday morning, a heavy police presence was observed in the area, with an armoured vehicle seen blocking a road. Additionally, a Swiss Army helicopter was spotted conducting aerial surveillance of the site.
