British Transport Police confirmed that a passenger train derailed near Wickford train station in Essex on Friday, marking the second such incident in England in just two days. The location of the derailment is approximately 30 miles (48 kilometers) east of London. According to police reports, the rear carriages of the train went off the tracks but remained in an upright position. No injuries were reported among passengers following the incident.
Emergency response teams, including police, firefighters, and paramedics, were dispatched to the site to manage the situation. National Rail officials stated they are currently working to determine the cause of the derailment, warning that major disruptions to train services are expected to persist through Friday afternoon.
This event occurred less than 24 hours after a separate train derailment took place outside the southern English town of Lewes. In that incident, which involved a train traveling from London to Eastbourne, three carriages overturned. Two individuals were seriously injured in the Thursday crash, while 18 others sustained minor injuries. British Transport Police confirmed that all passengers from the Lewes derailment were successfully evacuated within approximately three hours. Investigations into the causes of both derailments remain ongoing.
