President Donald Trump has confirmed that his administration is actively considering the removal of Kimberly Guilfoyle from her role as the US ambassador to Greece. The decision comes in the wake of mounting allegations regarding professional misconduct, which include claims that she accepted lavish gifts and engaged in cash-for-access schemes.

When asked by reporters while departing the White House for Ohio whether he was weighing her dismissal, the president stated, "Well, we're looking at it. Yeah, we're not happy." The administration's reassessment of her diplomatic status follows media reports suggesting that Guilfoyle accepted expensive gifts while stationed in Athens and solicited money in exchange for providing access to senior administration figures prior to her confirmation by the Senate. According to CNN, the State Department’s Office of Inspector General has initiated an official investigation into the matter.

The inquiry follows formal pressure from US Senator Jeanne Shaheen, who serves as the Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Shaheen had urged Secretary of State Marco Rubio to investigate both Guilfoyle's diplomatic conduct and her relationships with corporate lobbyists. Central to these allegations is Christos Marafatsos, a lobbyist representing Greek corporate clients, who reportedly accompanied the ambassador into high-level bilateral government meetings without proper authorization.

Public scrutiny intensified following reports of a dinner that occurred on March 18, 2026. During the event, Guilfoyle allegedly referenced the political collapse of the Romanian government while issuing a warning to the Greek Energy Minister, stating, "We can do that to any country we want. We can do that here."
