Türkiye and Italy have signed a memorandum of understanding in Rome to strengthen bilateral cooperation in labor, employment, and social security policies.
The agreement was signed on Thursday by Turkish Labor and Social Security Minister Vedat Isikhan and his Italian counterpart, Marina Elvira Calderone, following official talks in the Italian capital. The discussions focused on boosting coordination in working life, employment, vocational training, and the sustainability of social security systems.
Minister Isikhan expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory of relations between Türkiye and Italy, describing the country as a NATO ally and strategic partner. He noted that close dialogue and reciprocal visits between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni have contributed significantly to enhancing bilateral coordination.
Highlighting the shared goal of raising their bilateral trade volume to $40 billion, Isikhan said that expanding partnerships in various sectors, particularly the defense industry, demonstrates their deepening economic ties. He added that growing economic relations are creating new opportunities for skilled labor and workforce mobility.
"We believe that sharing experience, particularly in vocational training, employment policies and the sustainability of social security systems, will make significant contributions to both countries," Isikhan said.
Under the memorandum of understanding, the two countries will exchange knowledge, experience, and best practices while regularly reviewing their cooperation through a newly established joint working group.
Writing on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, Isikhan expressed confidence that the agreement and the joint working group would further solidify their bilateral dialogue, institutionalize exchanges between the ministries, and support efforts to protect and strengthen the rights of their citizens.
