A drone strike targeting an industrial zone outside the Russian capital of Moscow resulted in five deaths and 10 injuries on Tuesday, according to the region's governor, Andrey Vorobyov. The incident, which triggered multiple fires in the Novoselki industrial zone, is part of a series of overnight drone attacks that hit three warehouses across Russia, including two facilities operated by the e-commerce giant Wildberries.
The ongoing conflict has seen Ukraine increasingly utilize long-range strikes against civilian infrastructure within Russian territory, with a specific focus on Wildberries warehouses in recent weeks. Since the onset of the full-scale war in 2022, the company has faced accusations of assisting in the evasion of Western sanctions by facilitating the import of branded goods through third-party nations.
Wildberries confirmed that a fire occurred at its logistics facility near Krasny Bor in northwestern Russia following a separate drone strike.
Leningrad regional governor Aleksandr Drozdenko reported that this specific attack wounded one person. Additionally, regional governor Vitaly Korolyov confirmed that another Wildberries warehouse was targeted in the rural area of Emmaus, located approximately 112 miles northwest of Moscow.
As Moscow and Kyiv continue to trade aerial assaults, the Ukrainian air force reported that Russia launched 136 drones overnight, 117 of which were intercepted or shot down. In the northeastern city of Sumy, Russian guided aerial bomb strikes on residential and non-residential buildings killed two children and an elderly woman, according to regional military administration head Oleg Grygorov.
A separate attack in the southern port city of Mykolaiv resulted in the death of an 89-year-old woman, as stated by Georgy Reshetilov, the head of that region's military administration.
The escalation also included reported violence in Crimea, where Moscow-installed authorities stated that an unidentified soldier killed a fellow serviceman and three civilians. Furthermore, local officials in the Krasnodar region reported that a drone strike on a crowded beach on Monday killed seven people.
While Kyiv has not publicly commented on the beach strike, social media footage verified by news organizations captured a drone descending toward the beach before detonating.
Both Russia and Ukraine have frequently employed electronic jamming to defend against incoming drones, which has historically led to instances of drones crash-landing throughout the conflict.
"According to preliminary information, five people were killed," he said on Telegram, adding that 10 others were wounded.
