The Yemeni army has announced the successful recapture of several positions across the Taiz and Al-Hudaydah governorates following intense clashes with Houthi forces. According to the Yemeni Armed Forces Media Centre, government troops engaged in large-scale operations across multiple combat fronts, which resulted in the securing of new high ground and the successful repulsion of hostile infiltration attempts.
Official reports indicate that the military launched a three-pronged offensive along the Al-Barh front on Sunday. This operation led to the recapture of territory in Al-Kadha, located west of Taiz, and the consolidation of newly secured positions south of Al-Hudaydah. In a separate engagement, government forces successfully repulsed a Houthi infiltration maneuver on the Al-Dhabab front, also situated west of Taiz. The military confirmed that these engagements caused significant damage to the Houthis' military equipment and resulted in more than 20 members of the group being killed or wounded.
The ground offensive was supported by coordinated air strikes. Yemeni warplanes targeted Houthi positions in Al-Barh, the southern areas of Al-Hudaydah, and the western outskirts of Marib province. Additional aerial bombardments were carried out against Houthi gatherings and defensive fortifications in Al-Labanat, Al-Alam, and Al-Jawf governorate, with the military citing substantial personnel casualties and equipment losses among the Houthi ranks.
Yemen had experienced a period of relative calm since April 2022, following nearly 12 years of conflict between government forces—supported by a Saudi-led coalition—and the Iranian-backed Houthis, who seized Sanaa and large parts of the country in 2014. Since late 2023, the Houthis have expanded their activities to include attacks on international commercial shipping in the Red Sea and strikes against Israel. The recent escalation in ground fighting has raised significant concerns regarding the stability of the long-standing truce and the potential for a return to full-scale warfare across the nation.
