An Indian-flagged commercial vessel, identified as the MSV Faize Noore Oliya, capsized and sank in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen on August 4 following a projectile strike. India's Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal confirmed the incident on Tuesday, noting that all 14 seafarers on board were successfully rescued by the Yemeni Coast Guard.
Following the rescue, the crew members—which included 13 Indian nationals—were transported to the Port of Mokha. India's foreign ministry is currently coordinating with Yemeni authorities regarding the circumstances of the incident. The vessel's sinking occurs amid ongoing disruptions to Red Sea traffic caused by Tehran-aligned Houthi forces, who have sought to blockade Saudi exports. These attacks have contributed to an expansion of the conflict between the United States and Iran, already impacting oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz. In response to these regional security challenges, Indian refiners have shifted their logistics to prioritize cargoes from the Middle East on a delivered basis.
