Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has formally requested that Israel halt and reverse its "forced establishment" of illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank. During a meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Wang emphasized that China maintains a consistent stance that the Palestinian question represents the most significant historical injustice of the current century. According to a statement from China's foreign ministry, Wang underscored that fostering regional peace and reconciliation remains the cornerstone of China’s Middle East policy.

Beijing continues to view the "two-state solution" as the only viable path toward a lasting resolution. Wang stressed that the immediate priority is to ensure full access to the besieged Gaza Strip to prevent the current humanitarian "catastrophe" from spreading further. He added that China is willing to work with the international community to encourage all involved parties to return to dialogue and seek a comprehensive political settlement to the conflict.

The issue of the West Bank remains a critical point of contention, with more than 500,000 Israeli settlers currently residing in the territory, which has been under Israeli occupation since 1967. These settlements and outposts are considered illegal under international law, yet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government has actively accelerated their approval. The United Nations has reported that settler violence against Palestinians, including acts of vandalism, arson, and physical beatings, averaged six incidents per day throughout the first half of the year. In a recent incident, settlers assaulted an AFP photographer documenting a harvest, fracturing his ribs and stealing his camera.

Meanwhile, the situation in Gaza remains severe. Despite a previously agreed-upon ceasefire, Israeli military actions have continued. As of Thursday, the offensive has resulted in the deaths of 1,505 Palestinians and left 5,332 others wounded. Since October 2023, the total death toll has surpassed 74,000, with over 175,000 individuals injured. Analysts suggest that these figures represent an undercount, with actual fatalities potentially reaching 200,000. Additionally, the military campaign has resulted in the destruction of 90 percent of Gaza's infrastructure.
