Now just over a month past his 24th birthday, the pacer secured a Player-of-the-Match performance by claiming 2 for 18 in four overs, playing a pivotal role in India’s victory.
Reflecting on his time away from the game, Mayank admitted the period was difficult, particularly because of his age at the time of his injuries. Despite the frustration of suffering so much at a young age, his motivation to represent his country remained constant. He expressed a strong desire to return and perform with the same level of impact he had previously shown.
India’s bowling lineup for the opening match of the three-match series featured a young pace attack, including debutant Ashok Sharma and Prince Yadav, who was only four matches into his international career. Shivam Dube, with 71 T20I caps, provided the most experience among the seamers. The collective effort saw Zimbabwe restricted to 26 for 3 within the powerplay, with India’s seamers accounting for five of the seven wickets that fell. While Ashok went wicketless, he impressed during his debut, finishing with 0 for 29.
Mayank highlighted the strong camaraderie among the young bowlers, noting that their discussions focused on tactical inputs rather than just pace. Mayank, who had previously faced Sooryavanshi during the 2026 IPL, expressed relief at having the young talent on his side this time.
