Turkish National Intelligence Organisation head Ibrahim Kalin has held talks with Hamas Political Bureau Chairman Khalil al-Hayya and an accompanying delegation in Istanbul to discuss diplomatic efforts surrounding the Gaza peace plan.
The high-level meeting centered on a transition roadmap designed to advance the second phase of the peace proposal. Sources stated that the discussions highlighted Hamas' positive response to the proposed roadmap. However, both sides expressed deep concern that Israel has intensified its military campaign in Gaza instead of engaging with the peace plan, calling on the international community to take immediate action to halt the aggression.
Beyond the situation in Gaza, the delegations addressed ongoing violations of Palestinian rights in the occupied West Bank and occupied East Jerusalem. They drew attention to expanding illegal Israeli settlement activities and a sharp rise in violence carried out by illegal settlers. The critical humanitarian situation in Gaza was also a key focus of the discussion.
During the meeting, Türkiye reaffirmed its ongoing political and humanitarian commitment to supporting Gaza. The participants underscored Türkiye's active efforts to mobilize international support to stop the massacres, protect Palestinian rights, and boost aid deliveries to the enclave. Furthermore, the meeting reaffirmed the joint mediation efforts of Türkiye, Qatar, and Egypt to secure peace, with the Hamas delegation expressing gratitude to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for Ankara's diplomatic initiatives.
