Yemeni military forces have launched artillery strikes against Houthi gatherings and reinforcements in the south-western province of Taiz, resulting in multiple casualties among the rebel fighters.

According to a statement released on Facebook by the Taiz Military Axis, the army shelled Houthi positions and incoming reinforcements on the northern front of the city. The military confirmed that the bombardment caused both deaths and injuries among the Houthi forces, though specific casualty figures were not immediately provided.

In a separate development, Yemen's Defence Ministry reported that Houthi forces launched mortar attacks that caused extensive damage to civilian homes in the province. The Houthis reportedly fired six mortar shells targeting several villages in the Al-Ashmalah area, located west of Taiz. The ministry-affiliated outlet September Net, citing unnamed local sources, noted that the shelling triggered widespread panic and fear among local residents, particularly women and children, though no casualties were reported from the strike.

These hostilities occurred just hours after the government-aligned National Resistance Forces reported that the Houthis had launched fresh attacks on the coastal city of Mokha in Taiz province. Those earlier strikes were carried out using ballistic missiles and drones.

Yemen had experienced a relative lull in hostilities since April 2022. The broader conflict began nearly 12 years ago between government forces and Houthi rebels, who seized control of the capital, Sanaa, along with other cities and provinces in September 2014. However, active fighting has flared up again in recent weeks across several provinces, including Marib, Al-Jawf, Al-Dhalea, and Taiz.
